Latex Balloons are Earth Friendly & Green.
One of the few sustainable resources promoting the preservation of rainforests.
The balloons we use are made from 100% natural latex.
Our latex balloons are biodegradable and take as long to decompose as an oak leaf left in your garden (6 months).
Sustainable forest-based activities are therefore very important to reduce the degree of harm to the rainforest whilst ensuring economic opportunities and employment for the local people. The most common sustainable practices found in the rainforests are latex (rubber) tapping.
Latex tapping is carried out in the rainforest both on a small and commercial scale. Rubber trees (Hevea Brasiliensis) are among the taller trees in the rainforest. Just under the bark of the rubber trees is a soft tissue that is rich with a creamy liquid called latex. The trees must be about 5 years old before they produce latex, and can stay in production for over 40 years. When the bark is cut the liquid latex flows out and is gathered by rubber tappers.
Latex is still produced in the same way it was 100 years ago by slanting cuts in the bark of a rubber tree to guide the sap into a small cup.
Wild rubber trees grow throughout the Amazonian rainforest and thrive only in these conditions in S. America. 600 natural rubber trees occupy 1000 acres of rain forest.
The advent of cars and bicycles created a need for rubber or 'latex' products including Balloons. Now a wealth of latex consumer products are produced including surgical gloves, balloons, plasters, sporting goods, tennis shoes, and chewing gum.
